Graphic Design Meme Lord

According to Friedrich Nietzsche, humans are primarily driven by two artistic impulses—the Apollonian 🌞 and the Dionysian 🌚.

In Greek mythology, Dionysus was the god of wine, excess and ecstasy. In contrast to the Apollonian, here boundaries are blurred thanks to the wine and intoxication. Dionysian art is defined by chaos, irrationality, oneness with nature.

Dionysian art brings one down to mad, intoxicated reality. We enjoy the animalistic ecstasy, and we see true reality as it is. But we also see the meaninglessness of nature, and this truth can be nauseating.

As part as an Alter-Ego project, I took on the role of Graphic Design Meme Lord in response to the recent trends of postmodern graphic design intersecting with meme-culture, to the point where one is near-indistinguishable from the other.

Having always created 'beautiful' work professionally on one side and enjoyment of making 'memes' for fun on the other, the act of making memes professionally was quite... mad.
